Honoring Susan B. Anthony - February 15, 2024
Susan B. Anthony is recognized as a champion of temperance, abolition, the rights of labor, equal pay for equal work, and a visible leader of the 19th Century women's suffrage movement. She and other suffragettes are widely recognized for laying the groundwork for the 1920 ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment, which prohibits the government from denying citizens the right to vote on the basis of sex. Every year, she is honored on February 15, commemorating the date of her birth.
- 1820 - Born February 15 in Massachusetts to a farmer and cotton mill owner
- 1846 - Begins teaching at Canajoharie Academy for a yearly salary of $110
- 1851 - Travels to an anti-slavery convention in New York
- 1854 - Begins campaigning for the Women's Suffrage Movement at the Seneca Falls Convention in New York
- 1857 - At a New York state teachers' convention campaigns for education for women and black people.
- 1869 - Anthony calls the first Woman Suffrage Convention in Washington, D.C.
